Home Sweet Home

I am spending tonight as well as tomorrow night at a hotel in Grand Rapids.  The hotel is super nice; probably one of the nicer ones I have ever been in.  I'm on the 11th floor with a gorgeous view of the river.  I have a king sized bed, a gigantic shower and bathtub, internet access and a huge TV.  But I can't help but feel lonely.

I keep thinking about my travels to South America 18 months ago.  How is it that I was living out of a suitcase, in and out of hotel rooms for 2 weeks and didn't feel lonely?  I think it's because I was traveling with a group, and I was so completely exhausted that any down time was not only welcome, but absolutely necessary.

Arriving in Grand Rapids around 3:15, I checked in, got settled in my room and then walked over to DeVos to set up my booth for MACUL tomorrow.  I was back in my room by 4:30 and climbed into my comfy bed for a nap.  Once I woke up, it was kind of like, ummm....okay, what do I do with myself now?  I ordered room service, worked out and then took a bath.  And it's still only 9:30!

Only an hour after finishing working out (elliptical, bike & treadmill) my legs feel like jello.  Yeah, just call me out of shape.  I'm hoping to read some more "My Horizontal Life" and hit the hay.

It's amazing how when you are in a room alone like this, you realize how much your pets are companions.  Usually, when I'm on the computer, Itchy is sleeping at my feet and Tipper is climbing all over me, sleeping at my side or rubbing her face against the computer screen.  Maggie is scratching at the back door - wanting in or out.  These animals that don't talk back - but the love I give them and they give me, sure keep me from ever feeling lonely.

Don't get me wrong though.  After a couple of days in pet land, I crave human interaction :)
