So we’ve been prepared for what…a year straight on this whole digital transition stuff, right? When it was initially announced, I was talking to my mom about it. She & Jim bought my tv for me for Christmas in 2004. And being that I am cheap and don’t want to pay $50 a month for cable, I’m rockin’ rabbit years that give me 3 channels that come in really good. Anyway, my mom said that my tv is a digital tv since it was purchased in the last few years. Awesome – I didn’t think more of it.
On Monday night, I’m sitting at home watching tv. There is this big red background on the tv that says “Your TV is not ready for the digital transition. Please call 1-888-xxx-xxxx for more information.” Crap, crap, crap. Granted, I don’t watch a lot of tv – especially this time of year when everything is in reruns. But, I do like to keep it on for noise or company sometimes..I live alone! When nothing else is on or I can’t take a nap, I do enjoy some Judge Judy or Judge Joe Brown. Yes, I watch the same tv shows my 75 year old grandmother does. So what am I going to do now without a tv? Of course I didn’t order the converter box coupon, I didn’t need it! That’s the last time I trust my mom…
To add to my distress, I sleep with my tv on. It’s a terrible habit, I know. But often times when I can’t sleep at night the sound of infomercials or “World News Now” lull me back to sleep. Maybe the glow of the tv being on keeps intruders away (doubtful). I woke up around 3:00 this morning to find my tv was a blank screen. It was like back in the day before infomercials when they showed the American flag and played the Star Spangled banner and then the tv went to static. Remember that? For some reason that always scared me…so did the music from “Crime Stoppers.” I don’t like where this is headed. I need to either wait 6 weeks for my coupon to come, watch tv at my mom’s house or just bite the bullet and buy the damn converter, sans coupons.
On to other news…
It’s been a hectic few weeks, to say the least. Work has been pretty slow, which is good. My stepdad was in the hospital for 6 days of the last week, so I was driving back and forth to Detroit each day to visit him. My mom is a giant wuss and was too afraid to drive to Detroit by herself. Luckily, he is at home now and recovering well. Now if only things would go smoothly and recovery would be just as quick with my dad on Tuesday when he has his surgery…”Pray with me Forrest, pray with me!”

That child sounds better off than most adults I know! If she's well grounded, her parents are doing an amazing job of pampering without spoiling.
