Time to get away

Ahh, back from a little weekend vacation. My mom, Jim, Roman, Roman's friend Jake and I all stayed in a cabin in Walhalla, MI for a long weekend. It was supposed to be a family affair with Matthew but he decided to be a punk and not come. And he's only 11 - I can hardly wait for him to to turn 12 in 19 days. Anyway, mom & Jim rented a cabin on Long Lake - this joint had a waterslide right into the water and this huge inflatable thing called the "blob." We get there on Friday evening, and got into the cabin. Yeah...it looked like something out of a bad frat movie. Couch from about 1968, a kitchen the size of my bathroom and the bedspreads I believe were older than me. But I had to get over that and quick if I was going to enjoy my weekend. Although I will be the first to admit I was praising myself for bringing my own pillow, and being pissed because I didn't pack my own blanket. Something about sleeping in a 1980's bedspread just freaks me out.

We had a great weekend. The boys had a blast riding the slide and hanging out on the beach. We rented a pontoon on Saturday and spent a leisurely afternoon on the lake. At one point, Jim anchored the boat so that the boys could fish. I decided that this would be a perfect time for me to float on the brand new float that I bought. I checked the area - determined that it was indeed seaweed free (I only do seaweed with my sushi) and jumped off the boat. To say that I got onto my float easily & gracefully would be a big fat lie. But after a few minutes, I got on it. I get up onto my float and I'm just relaxing in the middle of a lake when I hear Roman yell, "Hey, we gotta go. I gotta take a poop." Yeah, so my choices were to leave the float I have been on for less than 4 minutes, or to float by myself in the middle of the lake. I chose the latter of the 2. They left me and I looked like a complete lunatic I can imagine, floating all alone. I would get nice & relaxed, to the point of almost falling asleep, when I would realize how close I was to the shoreline and then I'd have to work at getting myself back out. I didn't want to creep any residents out by being some fat chick on a float, approaching their dock. Luckily, the fam came back about 20 minutes later (yes, it takes Roman that long to poop!) and I got back on the boat. Again, not an easy or graceful task, to say the least.

Later that night, we were sitting around the table playing "Racko." It was quite a windy evening and was very chilly too. So we stayed in and were having a good time. Here is an example of the conversations had:

Mr. Jim: "Who do you think made out better when we got married?" (Meaning, who got the better end of the deal, our family for getting Jim, or Jim's family for getting my mom.)
Roman: "I don't know. I didn't make out with you guys."

We laughed for a good 5 minutes at that one. Another one:

Me: "You better watch it boy, I'm your godmother." (to Roman)
Roman: "You're half my godmother."

Apparently, I'm half a person now. He is somewhat right - he does have 2 godmothers. :)

I am back home now, amidst plenty of packing and preparing for another work week. Where in the hell has the summer gone?!
