You say it's your birthday

Today is Mr. Jim's birthday. For those of you who are not familiar with Mr. Jim, he is my stepdad. My nephew Roman decided when he was like 4 or 5 to start calling him that, and the name has stuck. Very rarely does anyone in my family just call him Jim - it's always "Mr. Jim!" Or in the case of Chase, it sounds more like "Mr. Dim". Anyway, I can't help but think that a year ago, we didn't think he was going to make it. He had a very advanced stage of prostate cancer, and the doctors were telling him things did not look good. Last fall, I took a million pictures of him, my mom & Chase at the beach. I wanted to make sure we had lots of pictures of him...just in case. Well, after 8 weeks of radiation, he's a relatively healthy guy. He is certainly a blessing to our family and a stepdad I actually like. Lord knows my brothers & I chased away some of my mom's former suitors when we were kids. Anyway, here is to your 51st birthday; may there be many more to celebrate!
