I have reached "pro" status on the Wii with bowling. I scored my highest score of 201 today and reached pro status, all in the same game. Hooray :) Really, it doesn't mean a lot, but it's fun. I'm slowly climbing up the ranks in tennis (650) and boxing (600). That boxing sure is a workout! Anyway, the Wii has been at my mom's house for like the last week so I haven't been playing it too much. But I still realize what a terrific investment it was!
Today was the C's Christmas party. I will be the first to say I didn't want to go. There were a number of reasons, none of which were all that pertinent or even valid. But the truth of the matter is that celebrating Christmas without my dad, just doesn't seem right. Granted, my dad is in Texas and would likely love to hear how this family gathering went. But I just miss him so much more when all his brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews are there and he isn't. Today I called him during the party and I think the reality of not being around during the holidays hit home...he said they are thinking about coming home next year for Christmas. I'm going to hold him to this!
Anyway, I didn't want to go. But I decided I NEEDED to. I have 30+ first cousins, like 20+ aunts and uncles. The sad part of that? I see them like twice a year, if that...and most of them live in the Flint area. We just weren't raised very close to that side of the family, I suppose. But I can't expect it to get better if I don't go to family functions...right? Not to mention my grandma C is like 89 and grandpa is like 93 and both of them are failing in health. My poor grandma looked so frail and old tonight...it was sad. She has always greeted me robustly with a kiss and a big smile, ever since i can remember. But tonight she just looked...there. I don't know what's harder - people growing old & dying, or watching people fail as they get older, until they die. Does that make sense?
After I got home, I decided to try to install my new toilet seat. How hard could that be? Just unscrew 2 screws and pull the thing off. Yeah, that ended up being an hour long project. That toilet seat is at least 15 years old so the screws were all rusty & gross. I sat on the floor praying to the porcelain gods for a good hour. Not due to nausea, but because those suckers were TOUGH to get off. I finally got them off, got my new toilet seat on and scrubbed everything down. See, I don't need no stinkin' MAN! I do need a new light fixture, a fresh coat of paint and a new rug and my bathroom will be pimped out & pink :)
Now I just need to cook a good meal in my pots & pans and crock pot. I'm becoming quite the little homemaker, here!
